The aging process can lead to loose, sagging skin around the jaw, neck and lower face. The facelift procedure, technically known as rhytidectomy, rejuvenates the face by elevating and contouring excess skin from the lower face and neck. In many cases unwanted fat is also removed from the neck. The standard facelift procedure does not include improvements to the upper and lower eyelids or the forehead.
Patients undergoing a facelift procedure often choose to include upper and/or lower eyelid (Blepharoplasty) and forehead surgery (Browlift) to compliment the lower face rejuvenation. Nose reshaping (Rhinoplasty) can also be performed with the facelift procedure in select patients.
A facelift alone usually requires about 2.5-3 hours. Incisions are hidden in the hairline and in natural skin creases. If excess fat is present in the neck, Dr. Fealy rejuvenates this area with liposuction performed through a small incision under your chin. A ‘full’ facelift includes eyelids, forehead, neck, and lower face and can take 4-6 hours. These outpatient procedures are performed under general anesthesia. Depending on the patient and procedures performed, facelift stitches are removed in five to seven days. Patients return to work in one to two weeks.
